Have been taking part in a workshop with Jean Guy Lecat for the last couple of days. It's been an interesting experience. It was basically some designers, a few production students and some of the CPP students. I wouldn't say it was an easy experience and if it was I guess it wouldn't have been much of an experience. Working in groups can be very fulfilling but I'm not sure if it's ever something that is always easy. Personalities differ and so when we are all pushed together for the first time we never know how things will turn out. It was interesting working with the CPP students because in they spoke about things in a different way we tend to on our course. They seemed to discuss things in a different way. Of course some of what they said was in 20 impressive sounding descriptive words could be said in three words but other times it was interesting to hear how much more interesting they seemed to find things. It was also really good to be collaborating on something and really creating something together. I found working in this way quite exciting and it's something that I realise I have missed in the past year working on design projects without a director and with no lighting designer. Working on this has really brought back my enthusiasm for what could be possible. I think there's a real opportunity between designers and cpp to create interesting work which is different from the work we do designing sets for the acting courses. Hopefully in the future we can build on this and become more experimental in the work we do at the academy.
